Technical Services Department

Gloucester Shire Council's Technical Services Department is responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the bulk of infrastructure within the shire. The Technical Services Department can be further summed up under the following catergories within Council's infrastructure;

Rainwater Harvesting; The rainwater harvesting systems at the Gloucester Livestock Exchange (Saleyards) and the Gloucester District Recreational Centre have been initiated by Gloucester Shire Council as a model for saving water.

Roads; Council has approximately 745km of roads within the shire which consists of:

- 105km of Regional Roads,
- 30km of Urban Roads,
- 152km of Local Sealed Roads,
- 458km of Local Unsealed Roads.

A road maintenance program is used to ensure that the majority of roads under councils control are regularly maintained.

Drainage (Stormwater); Council maintains an extensive network of pipes, drains, retention ponds and gross pollutant traps within Gloucester to allow rainwater runoff to flow into either the Gloucester or Avon River without inundating building and infrastructure while maintaining the pollution levels within the system.

Water Supply; within Gloucester and the village of Barrington, Council maintains a network of pipes and reservoirs to provide residents with a potable water supply. This also includes the operations at the Water Treatment Plant.

Waste Water; an extensive network of gravity and pressure sewer mains and pumping stations provides waste water drainage to the residents of Gloucester and some of its surrounds. This also includes the operations at the Waste Water Treatment Plant. A Liquid Trade Waste Policy is in place fro all businesses connected to the sewer mains for commercial reasons.

Parks & Reserves; Gloucester Shire Council regularly maintains a spectacular range of parks and reserves that are scattered about the shire and within Gloucester itself. Each park and reserve has its own different features and rules, some of these parks can be booked for special events.

Footpaths; Council currently has approximately 12km of concrete footpaths under its control with regular inspections carried out to ensure that a work schedule is upheld to maintain the sections of footpath.

Bridges; there are approximately 160 bridges (this includes culverts over 6m in length) and 90 causeways throughout the shire that are maintained by Council.

Saleyards; Gloucester Shire Council owns and maintains the Gloucester Livestock Exchange which is a member of NSQA Ltd. For sale dates contact Gloucester Stock & Station Agents.

Weight of Loads; The Mid North Weight of Loads Group works in co-operation with the New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority to protect and prolong the life of our roads by reducing the incidence of overloaded vehicles. Gloucester Shire is the administering Council of this group.

Swimming Pool; Council's Swimming Pool Complex is located in Gloucester District Park and features a heated 50m Olympic pool, a 15m wading pool and a newly built Hydrotherapy Pool.

For any questions or enquiries regarding any of these areas please contact the Technical Services Department
