Rocky Crossing Fishway
Council is working with the NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW Fisheries) in the construction of a partial width fishway at this location. The barrier to fish movement at Rocky Crossing is ranked number one priority by Fisheries in the "Bring Back the Fish" program. Improved fish passage at Rocky Crossing allows native fish access to more than 150km of upstream habitat.
As the fishway is only partial width a large part of the waterway will remain available for canoeists.
The fishway includes a 3600mm wide by 300mm high box culvert through the northern end of the existing causeway. The design of the fishway immediately downstream of the culvert "ponds" the water back through the causeway and does not increase the water velocity through the structure. A grill will be added to the upstream end of the culvert to reduce the likelihood of problems occurring.
