FAQs
Do I have to register my dog or cat?Under the "Companion Animals Act", all cats and dogs which are born or change ownership, after July 1, 1999 must be microchipped and registered. This is a two step process with microchipping carried out by your local veterinarian and then registration at Council offices. Once your animal is registered, if lost, it can be identified anywhere in NSW through the Companion Animals Register. For further enquiries and specific information regarding microchipping and registration of Companion Animals please contact Council's Planning and Environment Department on (02) 6538 5250 or visit the Companion Animals section on the Department of Local Governments Website.
