Consideration of Exploration and Mining - A New Approach
Gloucester Shire Council has undertaken a pro-active assessment of exploration and mining activities within the Greater Gloucester area.
As part of the assessment process, Councillors drew upon information provided by the wider Community and developed the document titled:
“Consideration of Exploration and Mining Applications – A New Approach”.
This document has been presented to the NSW Government (ALP), the then Opposition and to a number of industry groups.
The aims of this document were to:
- To suggest a new approach to the approval (tender) process for exploration licences which allow for community consultation; and
- To establish Acquisition and Social Equity requirements for mining approvals.
The document identified two stages in the mining approval process being Exploration Licence Applications and subsequent Mining Applications. These two areas being of increasing concern to communities across New South Wales and especially of concern in the Greater Gloucester area.
To gage Community response to the content of this proposal, an extensive community survey was undertaken during August and September of 2011. The results of this survey are able to be downloaded in both summary and in full as shown below.
